Parking
Mississauga’s parking by-law is designed to ensure the safe and orderly use of city streets and public spaces. Here are the most practical points residents should keep in mind:
Overnight Parking: Street parking is generally prohibited between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. year-round, unless you have a temporary parking permit from the City.
Parking Duration: Vehicles cannot be parked on a street for more than five hours at a time, unless otherwise indicated by signage or with special permission.
Front/Side Yard Parking: Parking on lawns or any landscaped area that is not a designated driveway is not allowed, with very limited exceptions. All vehicles must be parked on a paved and designated driveway.
Number of Vehicles: Residential driveways have limits on the number of vehicles that can be parked simultaneously, depending on lot size and property zoning.
Fire Routes and Accessible Spaces: Parking in designated fire routes, accessible spaces without a valid permit, or blocking sidewalks/driveways can lead to immediate ticketing and/or towing.
Temporary Parking Considerations: Residents can apply for temporary parking permits for guests or special occasions, but these are subject to availability and approval.
Winter Parking Restrictions: Additional rules may apply during snow events to facilitate plowing—pay attention to local alerts and signage.
Being aware of these key by-law elements helps residents avoid fines, ensures emergency access, and contributes to a safe and organized community. For full details or to apply for parking permits, consult the City of Mississauga’s official website or contact the city’s parking office directly.
